Zebra mussels
found in Gull Lake
(Released October 6, 2010)
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
biologists have confirmed a report that zebra mussels are now in Gull Lake near
Brainerd.
It marks the second time in four months that zebra mussels have been discovered
in a popular Minnesota lake. In July, the DNR found zebra mussels in Lake
Minnetonka.

Lake Margaret To Be Treated for Curly Leaf Pondweed
April 26, 2010
The Lake Margaret mapping to determine the location of curly leaf
pondweed has been completed. The amount of curly leafpondweed is less
than the year before. It looks as if the CLP may be coming under control
in areas other than area 4 on the map or that just south of the narrows.
There still seems to be a substantial amount of CLP there.
Attached is
this year’s delineation along with the
August 2009 point-intercept survey and the
2009
turion survey. As you can see from the turion survey, very few
turions were surveyed, that is a good thing. The greatest number of
turions sampled was 8 at one location. Some of our pilot lakes have 100
at one sample location for comparison. The spraying is to take place
April 26.

WE LOVE OUR LAKES
A study indicates Minnesotans are willing to
pay to restore polluted lakes.
A study, conducted on the Lake Margaret-Gull
Lake Watershed near Brainerd and the Sauk River Chain of Lakes between
Richmond and Cold Spring, determined the willingness of property owners
to pay and which best management method of pollution control they would
pay for.

Lake Margaret Curly Leaf Pondweed:

This map is a GPS mapping conducted in June
2006 by the DNR of curly leaf pondweed in Lake Margaret. Areas from
shore to the red line contain curly leaf. The blue areas contain no
curly leaf. The tracking was done by visual contact with curly leaf.
Depending on the clarity of the water it can vary, meaning there maybe
more curly leaf than could be seen at the time.
